The big hours
we got three hours darling
until the steamwhistle of dawn.
Been several hours
since we sat down
to work
on honoring our talents.
You, a bottle of Tequila
mexican man on the label
holding a pick
name, starts with "El"
me, a bottle of the only American
worth the word whiskey
black label
with white writing
"made in Lynchburg Tennessee"
radio
plays
the Dead
sad and slow,
Now
it's deciding time
do we fuck fear into these walls?
or
do we finish
finger-painting fire
in the kitchen?
I think we need another round,
another song that makes a lonely road
feel right.
Tell me again my dear
to what degree
your boss should fuck himself
let's discuss which forest
that we will eat mushrooms
and run naked in
next summer
tell me one more time mama
what that dress you want to make
looks like,
while you try to hide that tear
that tells me that your falling
for me.
I will pretend I don't notice
and simply say
relax
I'll go check on the kids.
until the steamwhistle of dawn.
