"Frank & I" ... A Poem written by Big Virge on 8/11/2004

 
One of my early poetic excursions into the world of racism and ignorance, so, don’t be misled by the title !!!  
 
Some people ... say to me .....  
“You sound like Frank Bruno ... !!!”  
 
Makes me wanna say ....  
“Are you dumb .... What do you know !?! ”  
 
Now i'm respecting Big Frank ...  
for what he's achieved ...  
But ... Let's get things straight ... !!!  
He DON'T sound like ... ME ... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  
 
My vocals and words  
are .... poetic to herds  
while what Frank said sometimes ....  
sounded .... so .... "Absurd" .....  
 
“Oh, that's really not cricket !  
now, Harry dear boy ....  
you're on a sticky wicket !!!”  
 
Appealing to .... whom ... ?  
People who see .... “COONS” .... ! ? !  
 
Well, i'm not a Baboon ... ! ! !  
playing along to that ... Tune ... !!!  
 
I've got lyrics like ... PICKETTS’ ...  
NOT ... the ones' who be ... "Flying" ... !!!  
but Wilson ..... DEFYING ..... ! ! !  
 
This view ... Oh Soooo ... Trying ... !!!  
 
cos in my mind ... you're implying ...  
That .... "All of us ... Blacks" ......  
Look and sound ..... all the same ..... !?!  
 
“Ahhhhh … I see now ..... Okay .....”  
 
It's ... THE CHIP ... on my shoulder .... !!!!!  
that's .... Directly .... to blame .... !!!!!  
 
See that's how they explain ....  
why a Black man like me ....  
gets looked at ... like ... "Cain" ... !!!!!  
 
Well .... maybe i'm ... " Abel " ... ?  
to try to ..... explain .....  
 
Being viewed in this way .....  
sometimes ... brings me .... "Pain" .... !!!  
 
I’n not Frank ... taking punches ...  
to damage .... my brain ....

cos' the way some were looking ......  
could drive a brother ..... "INSANE" ..... !!!!!!

I DON'T ... sniff ... "COCAINE" ..... !!!!!  
and Frank .... ISN'T .... my name .... !!!!!!!!!!!  
 
That's ... "The TRUTH" ... !!!!!  
STRAIGHT ... and ... PLAIN .... !!!!!!  
 
Take your mind ... out the drain ... !!!  
call me  ... "VIRGE" ... or ... Big V ...  
 
Definitely ... NOT ... Frank ... !!!!!!

Just do me a favour ....  
when you see a ... Black Guy  
who looks ... " A Little " .... like me  
 
THINK FIRST .... !!!!!!!!!!  
and then .... speak .... !!!  
cos' you might finally see ....  
That we aren't all the same ....  
 
Some of us .... USE our BRAINS .... !!!!!  
Not Just .... " Fists or Guns " ....  
 
In some .... “INTELLIGENCE" .... reigns !!!!!  
 
But .... just so you know ....  
 
Some Blacks are .... MY FOE .... !!!  
and I do wanna ..... "Choke" ......  
Some ... Black Women & Blokes ... !!!!!!!  
 
It’s just ... "Presumption" ... i'm saying ....  
I .... REALLY .... Don't Like .... !!!!!  
 
cos .... We ALL .... DO NOT FIT ....  
These FAKE .... " STEREOTYPES " ... !!!!!  
 
Just be ... " Thoughtful " ... and try ....  
To  ..... “OPEN” ..... your mind ......  
 
So .... when you next walk the street  
and see a ... "SCARY" ... BLACK GUY ... !!!
