Chasing Daylight
I hate sleeping on my own. Every night is just the same. The monsters voices, are all I hear, but I wake up with nothing to blame. Im here. My mother watching over me, but when I wake in the pitch, shes gone and so has the light. The wind knocks branches against my window. Everything is just so scary. The same for my 6 years of life.
A special night came along, but it seemed like another average scary one. I close my eyes once, then twice, they're getting very heavy. I open them up once more, only to realise I am in my school uniform, and behind me is a massive castle. I begin to run. What Im running from and who is behind me, I do not know, but I run for my life. Quicker and quicker, the faster I run. Eagles fly beside me as I run from my invisible enemies. I run and they fly, but suddenly fly away. Im on my own once more. The ground trembles and I am still running, like I will never tire. Running an endless marathon. Something rises from the ground, something monsterous. I trip and hit the ground, looking behind me at the creature rising up. It looked like a human-like horse skeleton covered in ghillie like grass. I tried to get up and run, but it was too fast. Before it touched me I covered my eyes with my hands and whimpered.
Immediately I was elevated, the monster carried me under its arm, running and running. Suddenly it threw me into the air, to which I landed on my feet and ran with it. It was helping me. Other creatures jumped from the ground and ran with us. Where we were running, I didnt know, but I had a feeling we were about to find out. Other creatures rushed ahead, throwing me a wooden sword and a shield. We were running to what we wanted the most and right now it was time to run! Another monster pushed a helmet onto my head then jumped ahead of me. I could see it, the one thing I wanted more than anything else. I let out a large war cry and charged into ahead, only to awake suddenly in my bed. Everything in the dream felt real.. the wind, the grassy creatures, everything.
How I felt about the night time and the monsters changed. I was never afraid again. The only thing I wanted now was tomorrow night to come, so we could go to war again. There was one thing on my mind, one thing I remembered for the rest of my life. We were all human on the inside, no matter how inhumane we looked on the outside. Not all scary monsters are evil.
