Tears

When I'm alone I am an adult,
I stand tall and make my own
decisions, alone.

With you I am young, so young.

I am back to lace dresses and
white tights that I always seem
to somehow rip.

A teddy bear to help sleep at night
and to protect me from the scary
nightmares.

A single goodnight kiss.

I stare into the mirror with these
deep, green eyes, so cold.

Voids of emerald shade, not a single
happy story to be told.

In all honesty, as I came to love you,
more and more and more.

I learned how to smile, even when the tears
are flooding my eyes and falling to my feet
that are securely on the floor.

No more daydreams of being with my one and
only prince.

'It's time to grow up' I whispered to myself,
But I haven't truly smiled since.

Around you I am a child, though my heart
yearns like a woman's with both love
and fear.

But even so, all I ever want is for you
to be with me, and to hold me right like
so many have not.

All I truly want, is for you to brush away
all my childish tears.
