Sensuality and Power: Why Mine Got Taken Away and How I'm Taking Them Back  (An Autobiographical Indulgence)

"people are not good to each other....

I suppose they never will be
I don't ask them to be.

but sometimes I think about
it."

from Charles Bukowski's "The Crunch"

My work is about the relationship
between pleasure and pain,
and the beauty in this duality,
One is contingent upon the other.

Raise your awareness.
Become conscious of the sound of my voice.

Hear me.
Hear my littered thoughts,
my confessions.

Say them.
Say them with me in a quiet voice,
Say them with control.

Say the things left unspoken
and say the things softly spoken.

Feel the fluidity of my words,
Hear the lyricism of my body.

Let me seduce you
with the luscious sensuality
of soft volume.

Let me let you
feel
the soft protective surface
of my skin.

Feel how it stretches across my vulnerability.
Realize,
it hides me.

Answer my questions.
Tell me why.

Roles reverse.
Fear and distance,
Cruelty and shame.

Watch me wither and then bloom.
Look inside where I am hollow.
Let my sense of alienation engulf
and then fill you.

Say goodbye
as I go spinning off into space
Welcome me back
as I return to our shared reality.

Am I arrogant to believe
I can reach you?

Will you listen
If I am sincere?

May I remind y
ou?
