FIRESIDE LOVE
There’s no more potent symbol of sexual desire
Than a couple making love before an open fire,
Many an intimate kiss and a passionate hug
Shared together on the fireside rug,
Their bodies enveloped in two kinds of heat
Before, satisfied, they are back on their feet.
An artist who paints such a scene could start a fashion
(If not scandal) with a picture called Burning, with passion:
Be it for the picture, or for the fire,
Or the way of realising desire.
That old proposition, “Come to bed”,
May become “Come to my fireside” instead.
