Coming of Age
We came of an age
That grew rotted out in its over thought
Obscure and unprecedented
We a woke on our birthday
And decided to be noticed
We grew it from a cesspit of insecurities
We fractured its bones
Allowed ourselves only stunted growth
And stitched up its seems with depravity
We fed it on drugs and cheap alcohol,
Cigarettes now the pacifiers on the tweens and teens
It grew deformed, stewing in its sickness
Desecrating the landscape with its filth
For children born to children
A playground constructed out of the broken glass
Of our mothers hearts
That we poured out into drains with so little regard.
Unnoticed and uncared for
The fashion accessory child swapped over
For a few highs and final stabs at the dying liver
Comfortable in our new smaller world order
We aspire to new heights
Of chat show spotlights
We sit back and relax
Lazily stealing away the hard earned rewards
Of an older families ways.
Those last glimmers of hope
In the lost infancy of children
Will become the very model of their mothers
And they too will come of an age.
