Understanding
once I stood in front of a classroom to tell a story about a
past mistake ,three words is all I wrote
didn't matter
was the hardest thing I had to do
I remember my mind being on
constant repeat
"don't look them in the eye"
"stay focused on the paper"
"tears will not run down your freckled cheeks"
Hearing everyone's story eased me up some
Hell if bobby killed a cat mine wouldn't be so bad
My turn up, walking straight to my fear
Shoulders erect, I slowly read my truth
I WAS BORN
Proud I made it through without a stutter , I look up
my teachers eyes are filled with tears
and in my peers I saw pure understanding

Beautiful and touching.
Brings to mind a quote from a fave author...
“We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.”
― Dietrich Bonhoeffer
