Bridled

We're all bridled,
slaves to the master
that is our own inhibitions

Fighting it is comparable
to fighting gravity,
it's always there
an ever-present oppressor
but...

When you break free of it
there's no going back,
knowing this we become afraid,
afraid to take the leap

To let our desires run wild
out in the open
unopposed and unhindered
the drive behind our actions

To axe the burden of responsibility
splintering the bonds
that have kept us bound
and ignoring the resulting debris

We live with with this weight
unwilling to discard it
for fear of finality,
a one way trip
into the realms of the unknown.
