Something Edible
Walk into my kitchen
It's a mess
naturally
Rummage in the cupboards
sugar
flour
baking soda
oil
Grab a bowl
grab some salt
some eggs
cinnamon
applesauce
And
chocolate chips!
Whisk together the wet ingrediants:
sugar, egg, and oil
Eew
I hate slimy eggs
on my fingers
Stir in applesauce
Next is dry ingredients:
Flour dusting on my clothes,
Cinnamon making me sneeze
Baking soda smells
suspiciously
like moth balls
but I add it anyway,
knowing if I don't
my bread will deflate
Add to wet
Finally,
The Secret ingredient!
Zucchini
Large and plump,
freshly picked
from Nan's garden
I grate it,
shredding it into Julianned strips
And add it,
along with my
chocolate chips
into the batter
combining it tenderly
Into a 9x5,
well oiled
pan it goes
350 degrees
1 hour
Waiting impatiently
Aroma enticing
Mouth watering
(A testimony to my will
I did NOT eat
the left over chocolate chips)
The timer rings,
I pull out my beautiful
Zucchini bread
Let cool,
wire rack,
10 to 15 mins
Invert
Cool some more,
Can't take it any more
slice it thick,
spread with butter
Give a slice to my sweetie
Take one for myself
A moment of bliss,
as I devour
Relieved I did not
Screw this one up
