Roles Reversed
When I was baby, you were there
Rocking me in your chair
Arms holding me ever so tight
Ensuring a safe night
As a child, you healed with a kiss
And brought back joy and bliss
Wiped away all my painful tears
For so many long years
As a teen, you watched me with hope
That these years I could cope
Teenage life you knew would be hard
So you always stood guard
Now an adult, our roles reversed
It’s me curing your thirst
Tears of pain I now wipe away
As you struggle each day
Nearing the end, my kiss don’t heal
Beside your bed I kneel
Grasping your hand it’s now balmy
I will miss you mommy
Rocking me in your chair
Arms holding me ever so tight
Ensuring a safe night
As a child, you healed with a kiss
And brought back joy and bliss
Wiped away all my painful tears
For so many long years
As a teen, you watched me with hope
That these years I could cope
Teenage life you knew would be hard
So you always stood guard
Now an adult, our roles reversed
It’s me curing your thirst
Tears of pain I now wipe away
As you struggle each day
Nearing the end, my kiss don’t heal
Beside your bed I kneel
Grasping your hand it’s now balmy
I will miss you mommy
