Matters of this universe

I've heard so many people say that looks shouldn't matter                
I suppose in some universes it could be true                
but it seems as if we need empty praise and phony flatter                
otherwise we would generally be feeling really blue                
                
Desirability, smarts and vigor will find you the right mate                
so you would think we'd at least try to be our very best                
'cause the better you are, the better will be your date                
but to some this poem reads as an insensitive jest

I don't think its insensitive at all.  I just believe that perfection is relative...what you believe to be perfect may be far different than the perception of others!  Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you.Perhaps it reads as if I mean physical appearance.I do; however,this poem is not only about one's looks...looks will only go so far.It's about trying to be everything that one can be.
