Image for the poem Shhhh!

Shhhh!

In a rush of wanting to say enough,
he says everything, and too much.

What he wanted to say and what he said
were miles apart.
She hadn't felt good.
She had been quite.

In an attempt to allow things to open up,
to be more natural, but in his rush
to say it all and get to the place
where he wanted to be,
he talked like a magpie.

What he wanted to say was,
"Be with me,
entering indelicate
mountings and turbidity,
a falling into the depth of you,
so hard and so long'
that the days cannot hold all the minutes
and the vessels are filled with my passion."

"I want all of you,
in and out and around you,
and then,
when we get started,
the rest of you,
inwardly falling
into."
