99 problems...

have written nine thousand
nine hundred
and ninety-nine poems
for her

    to tear to strips
    to pad her nest

one more
I could make her immortal

but
like breaking rank
on the thirty-ninth
day of devotion
or
by protesting a marathon
walking away
on the twenty-fifth mile

now

I will
allow the dust
to settle on the temple

and murder her memory
with the very next one

that walks by
in a skirt
