Talking to a Girl
I don't know her well enough
to say who I am
I leapt into this poem
and my feet may not land
I'll try to be truthful
although I may not be wise
I'm verses in progress
and the rhyme's a surprise
We all have our failings
our fits and our flaws
It's I'll show you mine
if you'll show me yours
Introductions aren't easy,
conversation's hard work
tongues toiling in treacle
while we wade through the murk
So what's the solution,
when my nerves are all shot?
I might send her an email
but then again not
Now my knees won't quit knocking
and my face is bright red
this stammer's quite shocking
think I'll run home to bed
Where I'll hide under covers
to review my faux-pas
I just wish I'd dressed smarter
learned a lesson in suave
Perhaps it's not how we look
or the way that we speak
the trick is the lines
in our chat-up technique
And next time I'm certain
that things will go well
because I've bought new deodorant
to woo her by smell
