The City and Gaity
1.
Your gaity
is not
private. It
belongs to
everybody else,
because everybody
else has
given it
to you
in the
first place.
2.
The more
you look
at the
city, the
more you
love it,
and the
more love
you take
from it,
the more
you give
back to
it, and,
if you
want to,
you become
utterly part
of it,
3.
of its
whole interpenetration
of joys
and happiness:
and this,
after all,
is almost
a symbol
metaphor of
life after death.
