A Poet's Point of View

Someone asked me today
why it was so important to me
to write poetry.

After some consideration
I came to the conclusion
that poetry is not only
an emotional release
but also a device
for communicating
enduring themes and ideas from life
to others.

Human brains have an easier time
retaining information
when it is in a rhythmic pattern
and I see it as my role

as a poet

to look at the world around me
and bring focus to the things

we are all noticing

but not everyone
will take the time to say.

Life can happen so fast
and poetry
is an appreciative pause
to unravel and reveal its mysteries.

Write on.
