One Year
Waiting.
Watching my feet
boil into the asphalt,
squinting as the sun glints
off me shining
bare legs.
The garbage nearby ripens
in the heat.
I wave the stench away
and wait.
Minutes, days pass.
This damsel.
I watch for you,
my knight in shining oldsmobile,
to sail down the flowing street.
Rescue me.
Eternity passes and
I see your car a few minutes later.
A year goes by, you pull into the drive,
once more.
I love you,
for coming home.
