Death From Below
The fear of heights is a most cruel affliction
It is like being afraid of life
As vastness stretches out before you
So blessed to be on a high ledge under the spell of beautiful scenery
Yet my legs weaken and the mind enters a blurry flux
It is almost an insult to entertain this demon amidst my good fortune
I focus on the task at my hands
Vertigo looms sinister around my peripherals
Taunting me
As if it had control of a switch
That could summon a vacuum to instantly pull me into open air
On top of an eight foot ladder resting on the fifth floor
My wicked brain tortures me
As I am perched atop my pyramid of terror
A cyclone swirls all around
Created of imagination
To spite my sense of freedom
To stifle my dream of flight
Perhaps the sprawling empty will always be my poltergeist
I keep looking beyond
May the distance make me come apart
It is like being afraid of life
As vastness stretches out before you
So blessed to be on a high ledge under the spell of beautiful scenery
Yet my legs weaken and the mind enters a blurry flux
It is almost an insult to entertain this demon amidst my good fortune
I focus on the task at my hands
Vertigo looms sinister around my peripherals
Taunting me
As if it had control of a switch
That could summon a vacuum to instantly pull me into open air
On top of an eight foot ladder resting on the fifth floor
My wicked brain tortures me
As I am perched atop my pyramid of terror
A cyclone swirls all around
Created of imagination
To spite my sense of freedom
To stifle my dream of flight
Perhaps the sprawling empty will always be my poltergeist
I keep looking beyond
May the distance make me come apart
