The broken Doll

The broken china doll laid shattered on the floor.
The marble had crushed her little face,
Her tiny arms laid broken around her body.
One eye hid in fear behind the table leg,
A pearly tear played all alone underneath the other.

For ten years she had been their toy.
Young yet merciless boys and girls,
Pulling, pushing, grabbing her fragile body.
Until , when it became too much to bear, the moment came,
She took her chance, jumped, but failed to fly,
and shattered in a thousand pieces on the cold and distant floor.

There she laid waiting, fearing, hoping to be found.
Anything, but this helpless silent fate from which she saw no escape.
And in the night four kittens came, who thought she was meant to play with.
There soft and gentle tongues found her broken heart,
Licked it, and slowly, unexpectedly it began healing.

For two years she rested, save between the growing kittens.
But time passes without delay, and youth simply cannot stay.
Yet before they could leave, an angel landed next to her and whispered in her ear:
'you are special. You are save. You are good. You are mine.'
And for a year, the doll believed.

Slowly she was healing. The angel found the long lost eye
And gentle placed it where it had always belonged.
Broken limbs were mended, her face lost its lonely grimace.
And in the middle of autumn, the angel found the doll's shattered heart,
and held it gently against her own:
'Feel the beating of my heart! I whisper your name and I feel free'
The doll looked healed, but all forgot,
her heart though beating, belonged to two.

Winter came and hid them both under a soft blanket of snow.
And though it seemed so peaceful, the angel only felt the cold.
It took her only two months to realize
she didn't belong with the doll she promised her heart.
And without thinking twice, she stood up,
shook the snow of her wings and looked up at heaven.
'Sweet doll! It's nothing personal really!
It's just, when it's so cold, it's hard to think about love!'

The doll, terrified of being alone,
desperately clung to her guardian angel's wings.
But no matter the plea, no matter the cry, the angel dropped the doll's heart.
Her eyes never leaving heaven she sighted.
'Maybe dear doll, when spring has once again chased away this cold,
I'll come back for you.'
But who knew when spring would come! Thought the doll.
Oh how she regretted not being able to speak!
But words had always come out of her heart,
and that heart laid beating weakly on the floor.
So without any chance at defense,
the angel dropped  the doll and flew away.

The broken china doll laid shattered on the floor.
The marble had crushed her little face,
Her tiny arms laid broken around her body.
One eye hid in fear behind the table leg,
A pearly tear played all alone underneath the other.

Hands reached out for her,
But the face remained unseen.
The shattered doll sighted and thought:
Whoever it may be.
