Saying Goodbye

Grinning, laughing, telling jokes,
Finishing last pieces,
Finishing paperwork,
Last looks around,
Last coffees and smokes.

Smiling, giggling, gossiping,
Making the most of the last few days,
Making the most of time still together,
Ignoring the impending end,
Ignoring the separate paths we're about to take.

Half hearted smiling, the odd chuckle, promising,
Giving out phone numbers,
Giving out false promises of keeping in touch,
Pretending it doesn't matter because we'll meet again,
Pretending in 10 years we'll still remember each other's names.

Hugging, crying, goodbying,
Reminiscing over old memories that aren't that old.
Reminiscing over old jokes and giggles.
Saying goodbye and I'll miss you,
Saying goodbye to everything, old and new.

Separate paths, separate lives, one year together, now we're all saying goodbye.
