Department of Motor Vehicles
tells grandpa
“ You're no longer fit to drive”
and to grandma they advise
“Get rid of your vehicle m’am”
so gramps won't be tempted
to go for a spin
for old time's sake
and endanger his and other's lives
a devastating decision she had to make
grandad spent his career
working in auto manufacturing
his gold, Pontiac station wagon,
that he meticulously maintained,
was the last vestige of his livelihood
to lose it was emasculating

Thank you Honoria❣ It dawned on me that I wrote another poem regarding this event in another NaPo. So it must still need to be remembered and voiced, right? Or maybe I'm running out of stories to tell...I certainly hope not

To me that's the scariest part of life's journey. To reach an age where you no longer are allowed or deemed fit mentally to make your own decisions and basically expected to sit in a corner to wither and die.
You captured it so well, that one moment where everything changes in life.
