Falderal
Peering into the darkness
Beyond the zone of comfort
My eyes out of focus
With new layers of depth
Breeze tickles the skin
Voices mumble softly
In one ear out the other
These thoughts of despair
My lips tracing curses
Under a devious grin
Humble witness sighs
Longing to remember when
Everything felt right
All was good in the world
Not this smoke and mirrors
Wrapped up in falderal

Author's Note
Late night musing. I found this write from the summer of 23. I would have been 2 1/2 months sober. Just trying to make my mind work again, not even attempting to rhyme. Baby steps, folks. I was in a very tender place, most days were dark indeed. There were only a few glimmers of light that I could even write anymore. This was a glimmer. I always liked it, it made me feel good for some reason. Appreciate you.

Still a great poem Damian. Thanks for sharing this. Once a writer, always a writer. No matter what life throws at us and may knock us down. We get back up and become stronger.

As said before Damian resonated with this with various family members and as a writer sometimes it's good just to get those words out raw without any editing as such ❤️

The mind always wants to separate the wheat from the chaff.
The meaningful from the meaningless:)

It's interesting how time doesn't dilute words. They can be read with memory & original intent...& still seen as fitting the world today. Amazing how far you've come, isn't it?

"All was good" Damian & it can be again. A no nonsense write for sure! I am glad you are reminiscing. I am also now... mainly in my Reading Lists... but still reminiscing. 🤗 🤩

Sometimes we create the best, most vulnerable writes when we are in a dark place.
Love this raw piece of ink, my friend.

Sober since 2021 so I know the feeling ,never shall I drink the golden nectar to find myself upon my knees and the days lost to sorrow and dark !

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Malcolm. Congrats, brother. You've been sober a little longer than me. It is truly one day at a time. I don't miss it, as much as I anticipated. But the shadows do lurk, and it pops in my head from time to time. Sure, you understand all too well. Appreciate you.
