Shattered Love

You told me that you loved me...
...you gave me everything...
...so much - that it was too much!
I clutched the material things...
...wonderful memories...
...unbelievable feelings...
and the years of safety - so tightly!

I wanted it to be real.

But it was unbelievable...
...it wasn't what I had ever had...
...or ever known - I hesitated!
I tried to return feelings...
...but I hurt us both -
trying too hard to hold on to me...
and be what you deserved.

The weight of my past...
...piled too heavily on our lives...
...wonderful memories...forgotten...
...unbelievable feelings...lost...
and the years of safety - gone.

We lost the greatest love...
...it shattered. Billions of pieces...
...of EVERYTHING...became nothing.

I walked away.  I just walked away...
back to the horror of all I knew!!!
