Ode To Morrison
A black clad leather demon claiming to be the lizard king
Mr. Mojo Rising up on stage dancing in the summer rain
Doors are infinitely open to perception as he starts to sing
While young people bare witness to a world gone insane
Strange people are taking random drives in the moonlight
Ready to break on through waiting to reach the other side
A ceramic frog with a peace sign hanging over love street
While the city sleeps the truth is hidden in this soft parade
A simple ode to Morrison to reflect his influence on me
He taught me that powerful words can set the truth free

Author's Note
Late night musing. The two writers who were major influences on my writing style were Jim Morrison, & David Lee Roth. Odd combination huh? This one is written as a tribute to Jim. Appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Pete. The movie does have flaws, I wouldn't use it for historical accuracy. But the acting was brilliant. Kilmer, was awesome. All the actors/actresses were great. It's a decent film. Appreciate you.

The man the had the ability to mesmerize, scare, shock, amaze and to always look cool no matter what was thrown at him. No doubt one of the 1st stage performers to actually be a threat to the audience and band members. He was a ticking time bomb. A deep, dark thinker with violence & tragedy circling through his creative and warped mind.
Brilliant Damian. This is one excellent poem!

This is a great tribute to a legend. My brother is very into Jim Morrison.
I like the quote by him. Extremely well composed.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Debbie. He is a huge influence on me. The quote was from the poem: The Severed Garden (Adagio). It was later put to music by The Doors. That's my favorite lines in the poem. Glad you liked the write. Appreciate you.

Re. Ode To Morrison
Hello Damian,
A wonderful piece to a talented singer and poet, I adore his soul, he is now the crawling king snake who rules his den. Or perhaps he will just watch night arrive in her purple legion, I enjoyed this piece. What I also liked was the ceramic frog with a peace sign, somehow it added to the piece and had a fairy tale/ish effect on me. Like a soft afterglow. Thanks for sharing!

Ahhhh!!! This is so dope, Bro!!!
This is where Poetry and Billiards intersect beautifully
It's all about the angles
Your approach was just simply magnificent
Much respect indeed

What an amazing Ode to Morrison, as a huge fan of The Doors this makes me smile :-) I love that you incorporated lyrics in your piece (Break On Through is on while I'm writing this) and even an album.
Love this one, my friend, I appreciate you :-)

"Break on through to the other side..."
That song will forever live in my mind rent-free. There are artists & there are Artists. Fabulous homage to Morrison!

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. I concur. The Doors were a great band. Innovative as well. Morrison, influence me big time. Glad you connected with the write. Great song. I really dig, "Not To Touch The Earth." And many others. Break On Through, is iconic indeed. Appreciate you.
