A FINAL 24 HOURS WITH BOBBY MCGEE

-- Janis Joplin is my favorite singer, a big sexual fantasy and her song. "Me and Bobby McGee" is one of my favorites.

In the song: she and Bobby stop traveling together near Salinas. (Lord, I let him slip away. He's lookin' for that home, and I hope he finds it.  But, I'd trade all of my tomorrows, for one single yesterday to be holdin' Bobby's body next to mine.)

Janis died at 27 just a few days after recording the song. No more tomorrows for her. Let's suppose HER WISH CAME TRUE and she was given a "single yesterday" with Bobby.  So, here's a song...

A FINAL 24 HOURS WITH BOBBY MCGEE

----------

We're somehow back in Baton Rouge still
waiting on a train. Got high while we were
sheltered from the rain. Somehow I thought I sang this song before...

I really ought to fess up...Bobby's not a boy.
She's Barbara but don't ever say that name!
When we left town...she left that name
behind. For forbidden love...we left everything behind.

People didn't understand and we
didn't fucking care...
she's everything to me...
she's my Bobby McGee!

I spotted a diesel...
While Bobby took a pee.
She just barely got to flag that driver down.
But he got us all the way to New Orleans.
That mattered to me...and my Bobby McGee.

I played my mouth harp and Bobby sang the blues. Every song that that driver knew.
Wipers were slappin'.  Oh baby...oh baby...
we were finally free. Free to forever be...
me and Bobby McGee.

Bobby put her hand down to the wet
spot in my jeans. I was feeling so good...
while she was feeling me.  Free to love and
be with my Bobby McGee.

Oh feelings! Oh what a perfect day...
But somethin' was a bothering me.
As the day was too quickly moving on.
I finally remembered...and...
I didn't tell my Bobby McGee.

Had I made a deal with the devil
For one more yesterday?
For that Freedom...
would there now be nothing left at all?

We'd shared our love and secrets...
Now we shared our final day...
so many places now...
that we would never see!

Bobby'd never leave me now...
but this would still be the end.
The final end for me....
The final end for and my Bobby McGee!

Oh I remember...oh how I cried...
I cried...for...so very long!
As the clock ticked close to midnight...
I held Bobby's hand...
...as she slept on me...
final minutes for me...
final minutes for me...
and my Bobby McGee!

I thought about freedom...
I thought about our love...
I even thought about rules...of society!
Five seconds before midnight...

I kissed my sleeping love...
I closed my eyes and prayed...
to a God I barely knew!!!
All while I held my Bobby McGee.

We're somehow back in Baton Rouge still
waiting on a train. Got high while we were
sheltered from the rain. Somehow I thought I sang this song before?

Author's Note
Note: I could not kill off Janis at the end.  The poor girl died far too young!  Before her version even hit the charts. So, like any record it just gets played again and starts from the beginning over and over.  They forever have the day Janis traded her tomorrows to live.
