Masking Death With Life
The death mask laid upon my face
will at last give serenity to this face.
Unmasked, I was exposed to the world’s
stares, aggression, stigma and prejudice.
This death mask now the earth above my grave,
where I’m entombed within peaceful confines.
Naked of a mask, the light did not warm me,
the arctic accusations from the voices chilled me.
This shield placed upon the face of my corpse
gives me one last bastion of security and peace.
will at last give serenity to this face.
