I think it's somewhere in-between "a higher state of being" and Bierce's own definition in The Devil's Dictionary (paraphrased, of course): "a temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder. It is sometimes fatal, but more frequently to the physician than to the patient."

Hey, maybe I should replace the “f” word with the “l” word from now on. When some guy acts like an ass again I’m gonna tell him to love off. I can guarantee that will keep him away and then I won’t have to struggle with taking him back.

Good try but if love is everything it must also be nothing.

I was gonna go on to say that too actually. It's all or nothing. But saying it is nothing doesn't make as much sense as saying it is something or everything. We can lose love for someone when we wake up in the morning, sure. I've done that before but it just proves that the love was never really there in the first place. I guess the closest definition of love is when someone can do their worst to you, yet you still love them. Also being in love means never having to say you're sorry. I'm not sure I agree with that sentiment, however, lol! 😉
