Fire and Light
We're but a drop in the ocean, a grain of sand,
But in this moment, we’re a comet's arc.
What does the Maker think of our tangled flesh?
Do the gods pause from their heavenly script
To smile at the laughter shared by two human lovers?
We’ll have years for slumber between dirt and stone.
The dust beneath us will soon claim our bones.
For these moments our breaths mingle
And we are the universe.
Let us ride this rhythm of this moment’s delight,
Though we are dying and all of creation cares not
For our pleasure or pain.
To care for the soul of another
To care and then to die.
That is enough.
But for this moment in time, we will have known
Fire and light.
