Tale of the Rainbow Girl

..a tale my own shaman grandmother told

long ago in the times of yore
when earth was young and pure
lived a girl with her shaman grandmother
in a village far away from the others

strange with yellow hair and white skin
pink green eyes thought to be a product of sin
parents left her and went far away
to live life anew away from her

she was fey and saw them all
little people, spirits and rainbow folks
her grandmother knew she was special
to one day inherit her shamanic gifts

the girl she met a rainbow girl
all shiny with her eyes of gold
her hair in braids of silver
her dress hues of shimmers

friends they became until one day
they turned into young women
grandmothers turn to the girls and say

...when the sun shines when it rains, the wind blows cold when it is warm
and man stands on solid ground, there will be harmony
and the worlds become  one, choose to stay here or there, but beware...
flesh of man will melt away when rainbow people triumph and colours will fade to grey
should they chose to go man's way...

they each went their separate way
but the worlds were just a curtain away
they'd whisper in quiet conversation
until the human girl aged and passed away

it is said that they met in the Rainbow Fields
where their youth was perpetual
sometimes they visit when the worlds merged
and walk for a while with human folks

Author's Note
A story my Grandmother told me a long time ago. In those days albinism was believed to be the issue of a human woman with spirits/fairy people/demons.
