On November 13th 2024 will be the 50th Anniversary of the tragic evening that occurred in Amityville. In 1974 a young man shoots and kills his entire family with a 35-caliber Marlin rifle as his parents, two brothers and two sisters apparently sleep. The gruesome murder of the DeFeo family shakes up the sleepy Long Island town of Amityville—and leads to decades of horror storytelling.
It’s been more than 45 years since George and Kathy Lutz fled their house in Amityville, Long Island, claiming it was haunted by evil spirits.
The couple’s terrifying tale of demonic possession inspired the 1977 book “The Amityville Horror,” a hit 1979 movie of the same name and several sequels, including a 2005 remake.

Thanks. At the time this was huge. A small town that was rarely spoken about becomes a sensation all over the world after the book & movie were released.

HA! Yeah he was chopping quite a bit. I just watched the film a few days prior to writing this piece. He's outside more then he's inside. Margot Kidder plays it real. You can feel sympathetic for her & the children. Good movie. Rod Steiger hams it up a bit but that's what he's known for.
