Buried With The Dead
Not even trying to conceal their behavior
Spreading deceit right in front of our eyes
Claiming the title of some pseudo savior
Arrogance is born from these ruthless lies
Pathetic old man clinging to spiteful ways
Entitlement provides a lust for holding power
Monsters remain loyal by killing off the strays
Watching it all go down from his ivory tower
Rats infest this land that once housed the free
Memories are painted in needless bloodshed
Liberty hangs lifeless from some forgotten tree
Seems all hope has been buried with the dead
Spreading deceit right in front of our eyes
Claiming the title of some pseudo savior
Arrogance is born from these ruthless lies
Pathetic old man clinging to spiteful ways
Entitlement provides a lust for holding power
Monsters remain loyal by killing off the strays
Watching it all go down from his ivory tower
Rats infest this land that once housed the free
Memories are painted in needless bloodshed
Liberty hangs lifeless from some forgotten tree
Seems all hope has been buried with the dead
Author's Note
Late night musing. This just kinda went dark for some reason. I never stifle my thoughts, I let them guide me to my destination. Appreciate you.

Sometimes a piece goes its own way, dark in this case. I had happening too. And you are right, liberty seems to become lifeless. Great piece, Damian.

Hi Damian DeadLove,
Your poem "Buried With The Dead" is as striking as a "death growl in an echo chamber" - to borrow your own words! The raw emotion and vivid imagery you've crafted paint a stark picture of disillusionment and lost ideals. Your use of rhyme adds a haunting rhythm that echoes the gravity of your words.
I particularly appreciated the line "Liberty hangs lifeless from some forgotten tree" - it's a powerful metaphor that encapsulates the theme of your poem beautifully. The progression from "pathetic old man" to "rats infest this land" creates a palpable sense of decay and corruption. There's a touch of Bukowski's gritty realism here, combined with Poe's dark romanticism - a potent mix indeed.
As a fellow poet who has been writing for over half a century, I admire how you've let your thoughts guide you, even into darker territory. It's this willingness to explore all aspects of human experience that often leads to the most impactful poetry. Your approach reminds me of Jim Morrison's fearless dive into the subconscious.
Your note about Ronnie James Dio's lyrics is a fitting complement to your work. Both share a sense of impending doom and societal breakdown that's particularly poignant in these times. It's clear that music and lyrics play a significant role in your poetic expression.
Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking piece. It's a reminder of poetry's power to confront difficult truths and stir our emotions. Your work exemplifies the #honesty and #PersonalGrowth themes you value.
Keep writing and exploring those late-night musings, humble enigma! Your dangerous mind is creating some powerful verse.

The darkness in this poem truly captures the essence of this time of year. So good Damian. The atmosphere is haunting, eerie, unsettling. The image is perfect! An RL for you!

Those who idolize such people are merely crowning the king who validates their own hatred. I feel this one. To me it doesn't read dark but rather it reads illuminating. Much appreciate you & your musings

that's the fun part of writing. Going wherever the destination takes us.
there are times it's backwards too.
I know the ending before the beginning!
Society nowadays feels like a wasteland.
You pretty much covered it all.
Do as I say not as I do.

Leaning towards epic, this.
Tight meter and rhyme scheme, with a steady driven message for all to hopefully let sink in.
Your wording is well placed, impactful even.
You're an awesome addition to DUP, and you reward us readers each time.
