The Door
Severely silent night.
An open door.
To a quiet nocturnal world.
There stands a paralysis of
gaunt empty branches.
Stone chances.
As the haunting
sterile white moon stares.
A door to nowhere.
Everywhere.
Somewhere.
A chilling choice.
Void of voice.
Step through the door.
Breech the membrane
of life's mysterious worlds.
An open door.
To a quiet nocturnal world.
There stands a paralysis of
gaunt empty branches.
Stone chances.
As the haunting
sterile white moon stares.
A door to nowhere.
Everywhere.
Somewhere.
A chilling choice.
Void of voice.
Step through the door.
Breech the membrane
of life's mysterious worlds.

It sounds far too bleak to step out of that door to be honest, Debbie. Entice me! 😉

I love dark barren trees too.
It just looked like more was through the door.
Thanks for nice comment.

Intriguing imagery enhanced by the free form rhyming structure. I like 'severely silent night' and 'paralysis of gaunt empty branches'. Cool write.

Dear D,
I really enjoyed the whole premise of this write. You have some haunting images but all with fabulous possibilities that made me think about every door I enter or exit and what that portal added or subtracted from life.
Great piece. H🌷

Doors can resemble so much. Love the dark vibe of this one, the choices... where will it lead?

The darker side of nature in this piece. Atmospheric, and quite mesmerizing. I like this poem a lot Debbie. A dark flow right into that image. Love it!

Great composition clothed In some nocturnal mystery and a touch of gothic darkness thoroughly.

Somewhat chilling and thematic, given the description of how this unfolds. I like how you tied together the various elements of a dark and silent night, almost as if foreboding or haunting, yet riveting and compelling, in wanting to read each next line. You also leave it open for more interpretation, the way you took it in direction. I like the visuals and raw emotion of this. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome! This actually served as a source of inspiration for me this morning! I wrote a poem called "A Winter Night", just going with the raw flow of this, in what I transitioned to ominous, dark, macabre, foreboding "spirit" in capturing a "cold" feeling of winter, heh. Seriously, thanks for being a source of inspiration.
