The Soldier's Sister
Your door is cracked, I sneak a peek inside.
Everything is exactly as it was; I nearly cried.
I've been counting the days since you left.
The pain of missing you is like a slow form of death.
You traveled over seas, to far away lands.
You're giving your life for all of man.
But I can't help miss you; miss you bad.
I miss talking to you; you were all I had.
Why did you have to leave me for a land so far away,
For guns and toys of horrible dismay?
I may never know, but I may never ask.
I cry over your absence at night; I miss our past.
When we would wrestle and play around,
But now you play while lying low in the ground.
You said you may never come back; you may die.
I couldn’t make myself believe that; it must be a lie.
Now lays a bullet wound north of your heart,
The news of your passing tore me apart.
I didn’t want to believe that you may never come back,
But now I know that is was a fact.
Soldiers stand by your casket, with your lifeless body within.
The sheer thought that someone would want you dead is a sin.
I love you and will always terribly miss you,
But I know joining the army was something you had to do.
I didn’t know how much I missed you until you were gone.
I didn’t know how right you were until I was wrong.
Everything is exactly as it was; I nearly cried.
I've been counting the days since you left.
The pain of missing you is like a slow form of death.
You traveled over seas, to far away lands.
You're giving your life for all of man.
