Unsteady Footing
for the competition Your Steadfast Love
I slipped
On your steadfast love.
I wasn't watching
Where I was going.
Usually I know better.
I stood
On your immovable will,
Trying to reach
Your arms
Held just above me.
I wasn't tall enough.
I peeked
Into your open mind.
Saw broad horizons
And caught a glimpse
Of fun and dirty things.
I think I saw myself in there.
I heard
The music of your heart,
And couldn't help but sway
To the steady beat.
It was in part the song
That brought me here.
The view
From your soaring soul
Is more than breathtaking.
I became addicted
To the rush
Of running near you,
But then I slipped.
I slipped
On your steadfast love.
I wasn't watching
Where I was going.
Usually I know better.
I stood
On your immovable will,
Trying to reach
Your arms
Held just above me.
I wasn't tall enough.
I peeked
Into your open mind.
Saw broad horizons
And caught a glimpse
Of fun and dirty things.
I think I saw myself in there.
I heard
The music of your heart,
And couldn't help but sway
To the steady beat.
It was in part the song
That brought me here.
The view
From your soaring soul
Is more than breathtaking.
I became addicted
To the rush
Of running near you,
But then I slipped.
