Image for the poem Don’t Let

Don’t Let

Darkness falls upon us

Here we go stepping into daylight
What do I do when darkness falls among us

Do I stand up chin strong and find a kernel of truth
Or go straight down the worm hole
Into the liars lair and rise with fleas

Staring at the sun doesn’t lead to blindness
It cleanses a cold part of me

I stand up on my history
I can’t look away even though I should
Peer down a periscope look at me

I look at me
All I see all I see is a part of me
But I want to be whole…I want to be whole

So don’t wake up in the darkness scared
Look around at all of us and find yourself

Darkness only falls upon us if we let it
Darkness only falls upon us if we let it

Don’t let darkness fall upon us
Don’t let the darkness lay among us
Lift up and stay with the living
Stay with me every day and breathe to me
Just breathe to me
Just breathe to me
