The Locked Room

The locked room is always so cold and bright
Thought we could stay there for more than a night
But you always disappear
What do I have to do to keep you here?

I find it so hard to show you what’s in my heart
Cause I’m always scared I’ll go too far
And you’ll leave again but this time you won’t come back
And I don’t think I’d survive that

I can’t let this distance keep us apart
Take my hand and I’ll take you to the stars
Never tell me I’m too far
I’ll hitch a ride to wherever you are

I never quite understood what love meant
Until the day you crashed into me
And left my body wrecked
Now whenever you’re not here, I feel so lonely

The locked room isn’t the same without you here
This space feels so empty and lost to the years
You know I would do anything for you
So tell me what am I to do?

Now a crash of thunder illuminates the locked room
Leaving me cold and exposed but it’s over soon
Let’s moan and groan and throw all the words we know into the fire
And we can scratch and scream and howl over the wire

Take off our skin and love the word
Take hollow breaths where none’s concerned
Rip into my flesh like the creatures we are
And I won’t blame you if I fall apart

Cause I’m sick of being left alone inside the locked room
I would look out the window and scream to the moon
And be left to suffer inside the dial tone
Cause I always sleep alone

I’ve got a question I’m dying to ask
But I’m scared your answer will make me crash
But even still I must implore
For you to open up the door
So I can see you face to face
And face what’s made me run away

So if I can, I have for you a simple request
And if you say no, I’d understand I guess
But of all the creatures on the earth and sea
You’re the one that means the most to me
So I’m asking you to not disappear
And stay right here
