Bread & War (Palianytsia)
“then they said to him, “Now say ‘Shibboleth;’” and he said “Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it correctly, then they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.”
Mankind,
Thou tenants of life, and death and strife;
How I have urged thee, spurned thee to love;
How I kneaded thee to know me
And forget the ways of woe
How often I have looked upon you;
Joined you as messengers in your ways
Until the day my word cries out from your hearts
And grows in your branches
How often I rejoice over you and bless you;
Sparing the torment of judgement for those
Who’s hearts remain true to my word
And who still look for my day of revival
I have given you bread, and thou hast dipped it in blood
Fight then, as thou hast always done

How I kneaded thee to know me
And forget the ways of woe
How often I have looked upon you;
