skyscraper
“Skyscrapers are the ultimate symbol of human ambition,
rising above all obstacles.”—Anonymous
ambitions
drag me by the pulsing shoulder,
by rations
limited that make me bolder;
too soon i
find that failure is a raper
to ruin my
feet short of their high skyscraper.
the journey,
though an uphill climb forever,
shall earn me
all the fruit of my endeavour;
sharp bruises
shall my passions not diminish,
excuses
weary not what i must finish.
naysayers
vex my spirit with dissuasion,
hope slayers
troubled by my sharp persuasion.
the summit
of my dreams (my last skyscraper)
i commit,
for my heart shall not escape her.
death pinches
half my breath; choked-up, i struggle
mere inches
from my rest. time i must juggle
to make it
battered, bruised, across the threshold;
half-naked,
still i rise, till on the scaffold
my crown i take
with pride and kingly presence,
my bellyache
foiled by grand luminescence.
