Letting Go

You are the beauty in my soul
Something that I didn’t realize made a hole
Why did you have to go
Why did I let you go

You are the bird that sings.
That swoops around a little playful thing
Why did you have to go
Why did I let you go

You were a typhoon
In the quiet of my room
Why did you have to go
Why did I let you go

Now you are an ache
In the center, where you pushed the stake
Why did you have to go
Why did I let you go

I lay here taking in my last breath
I’m closer to you now. It’s time to meet my death
I had to let you go
That was something you had no control.

Author's Note
I wrote this for my friends who are dealing with someone who passed away and feeling that no one else can ever feel the pain. It may not be the same pain, but I know the feeling.
