Last to Leave the Party
You’re the last to leave the party
The last one to catch on
They’re way too kind to kick you out
But they’ve already gone
They’re setting good times on the shelf
They’re turning off their phones
When you’re last to leave the party
You get used to drinking alone
Should’ve known the time would come when you’d get left behind
But you were having so much fun you couldn’t see the signs
They’re looking at their watches saying sorry, gotta run
But it’s not late, and you thought things had only just begun
Time only flies for the person having fun
You didn’t mean to be a nuisance, didn’t mean to overstay
You thought if you could just hang on you’d think of one more thing to say
Feels like the conversation’s winding down, anyway...
You can’t make people stick around once they decide they’re done
And maybe what you want ain’t everybody’s kind of fun
It’s hard to watch a good time end, you gotta let it go
You’re hoping they’ll be back again but you don’t really know
That doesn’t help the sinking feeling as you watch them go.
So raise a glass for all the times you’ve stayed beyond last call
Some people only want a sip, but you – you want it all
They can’t keep up, so burn that bridge and set out on your own
If you leave first it doesn’t hurt, and then you’re free to roam
There’s other parties to be found before you head for home
Be the first to leave the party
Just step out before dawn
They'll never need to kick you out
'Cause you’re already gone
Just keep the good times in your heart
And leave the seeds you’ve sown
When you’re first to leave the party
You get used to drinking alone
