Forsaking All Others

Forsaking All Others

Their handmade gifts were given in fear and joy
by young souls filled with lust and hope for a future.
Oh, what pleasures they found in the use of these gifts!

As imperfect hearts broke over time, they found pleasure in
giving and receiving freely, but now come to a
place of commitment, sealed in in vows of fidelity.

But the camera seems to have caught the hesitance she feels.
Even in this moment of celebration her heart hints at discontent
and she wonderers if one love is enough for bigness of her life.

Author's Note
Inspired by looking through a friend's wedding photos. She and her husband had complicated relationship histories before they met. I used the first verse of an earlier poem and repurposed it here. Did some edits for this poem's illustration, too.
