Knives
The knife of your exclusion
Dug a little deeper
Glistening in the summer sun just now
Before a startling stab
Aimed on an unknown prior date
Dug deep, releasing tears of pain
The knife of your silence
Ever circles my sanity
Re-etching wounds each day
Into a scar tattoo of sadness
Encompassing my heart
The knife of your indifference
Slices through my craving need
Parsing it into an ever-growing mound of fragments
A phantom blade, unseen
Deigning not to even feed my famished eyes
With its desirable form
Do you hate me so
That you can only ever greet
My bleeding broken heart
With handfuls of these
Cleaving knives?
Is my love a plague
That you desire to destroy?
These knives bring me no joy
Only sad reminders of this fear
that you don’t want me anymore
Dug a little deeper
Glistening in the summer sun just now
Before a startling stab
Aimed on an unknown prior date
Dug deep, releasing tears of pain
The knife of your silence
Ever circles my sanity
Re-etching wounds each day
Into a scar tattoo of sadness
Encompassing my heart
The knife of your indifference
Slices through my craving need
Parsing it into an ever-growing mound of fragments
A phantom blade, unseen
Deigning not to even feed my famished eyes
With its desirable form
Do you hate me so
That you can only ever greet
My bleeding broken heart
With handfuls of these
Cleaving knives?
Is my love a plague
That you desire to destroy?
These knives bring me no joy
Only sad reminders of this fear
that you don’t want me anymore
