The Sickening Couple

Luke Atmyass was found beating a sick small animal to death when he was 6 years old
That year Stella Virgin was born to a pair of drunks
By the time he was 12, Luke had caught the cold that would never leave him
As a child Stella already had thick ankles, a hunched back and thin hair
After leaving school, Luke went to work in a libraries office and stole reference books whenever he had the chance
Stella was employed behind the jewelry counter in a five & dime
She would amuse herself by loosening settings with a nail file so the stones would fall out, soon after purchase  
The two met at a lecture one night at the library
The lecture was about the evils of not returning books after their due back
On Sundays they took long walks together
Luke would bring one of the books he stole
They went to the local cinema whenever there was a crime or pornographic film playing
Following one particularly exciting pornographic film, they fumbled with each other in a cold woodshed nearby
After several years they secretly rented a remote and undesirable manor
When they tried to make love
Their strenuous and prolonged efforts came to nothing
In the winter of that year they decided to embark upon their life's work
Months later, after many complicated preparations, they felt at last they were ready
Stella lured a little girl named Ura Snotball to the manor  
Stella promised her a doll wearing a red satin gown
They spent the majority of the night murdering the child in various ways
By twilight of the next day
The body was buried and the mess was cleaned up
They sat down to a meal of Grape Nuts and molasses, artichoke sandwiches and artificial orange soda
The pictures Stella had taken did not come out very well, being underexposed
They did however place them in the new photo album they stole
Over the next three years they killed four more children
It was never as exhilarating as the first one had been
Their activities always remained unsuspected
Then one day in June some snapshots fell out of Luke's pocket on a train
This began the downward spiral
At times they said they done it all
Other times they denied everything
Someone threw a dead rat in Stella's face as she was being taken into the building where the court was
The trial went on and on with both of them sinking into apathy
They were found guilty but insane
They were taken to the asylum in the same van
After that, they never saw each other again
When he was 46 Luke's cold turned into pneumonia and he died within a few days
Stella failed to such an extent that for most of her life, she did nothing but lick spots on the walls
I think she died around 83 or 85
