daddy was a firm believer in the power of small things
because he witnessed first hand
the level of damage half an M80 can do
...when flushed down a toilet
...so small...so very potent
it was frightening...enlightening
& the fury on his usually patient father's face
silence that said so much more than shouting
...lesson learned the hard way
dimensions do not determine capacity

same can be said for my daughter
I've seen men freeze in their tracks
dropping their previously cocky stance
when she leveled the look & took aim
tone dripping with daggers of ice
because they arrogantly chose to ignore her polite no thank you
she has a low threshold for disrespect
for being treated as though she has no rights
doesn't actually know her own mind
there's always one that pushes her buttons...
just to see what they do...
...fools

I'm not gonna lie...
mama watches on with pride
as her tiny 5'2" frame takes on the ego of Goliath
leaving it deflated on the ground
too limp to make another attempt
all they had to do was accept her no with grace
instead of taking it as a personal challenge

my little firecracker has a platinum heart
she's patient...until she isn't
& when her boundaries are treated with disregard
those baby browns flash fire
causing men to pause...
sometimes that's enough
but when it's not...
she pulls out the big guns & shuts their asses down
half an M80...remember

thing is...
when she's defending her position
it's always more than appears on the surface
she has all of us in mind
teaching them how to treat us when they can't be bothered to learn
reminding me yet again
mighty comes in many sizes
& my girl is living proof
