Lonesome Travels

Down a dark alley he walked,
Not minding the cold.
Missing the life that he had,
And his woman to hold.

From the ashes of utter defeat,
Came his determination.
And from his continued struggles,
Was born his miserable destruction.

He tried for the gain of nothing,
He tried in spite of his failings.
He tried, rightly so, he couldn't,
He tried, against all his feelings.

As he stumbles, so bitter, alone,
With no one to stand beside.
He wished that he could have made it,
He wished he hadn't've lied.

He told them all he was alright,
He'd told them all he was fine.
He'd stayed silent for too long,
He couldn't hide this last sign.

Alone and despondent he trekked,
Not knowing to where he could go.
Letting his misery overtake him,
He knew it would hurt him like so.

His ending should not be so long,
He's said his goodbyes as needed.
There were still some people however,
Who, his warnings he wished, had been
     heeded.

And so now he sleeps for the last time,
Wishing only the best for those left behind.
Knowing he'd tried to be generous,
And hoping you all thought him kind.

The end he sees, is bitter and dark,
But committed, he walks through the door.
And he'll wait for those who had loved him,
Knowing that he'll see them, once more.
