like he was looking for a confrontation
& I frowned
considering a response
but chose instead to remain silent
he wasn't looking for a conversation
merely a target for his condemnation
though the accusation was aimed in my direction
it said more about him
some people cannot see reason
it doesn't align with their personal reality
they simply lack the capacity to comprehend
circumstances other than their own don't exist
& I wasn't there to educate the willfully blind

no wonder you never made anything of your life

if he only knew...
sometimes the only world worth conquering
is the chaos of your mind
wrestling the demons riding your back to the ground
overcoming their power
& tossing their irreverent asses out
claiming breathing space
one tiny battle at a time
he was wrong in every meaningful way
I broke down those monsters breaking me
& I refuse to diminish that victory
just because one self-assured pompous man
couldn't see beyond his own experience
...his own privilege

the most notable difference
between him & me
is I have the compassion
to be grateful on his behalf
gratitude...
that he lacked first hand knowledge
such arrogant ignorance
allowing him to stand there so confidently
& fling his judgment at me
