trashy romance novels

I got a second hand  
trashy romance novel for free  
with the points on my local  
bookstore loyalty card  
 
I love picking up books  
without really knowing  
what I'm buying  
it's just more fun that way  
 
And as far as trashy romance goes  
this was pretty classy  
and unexpectedly funny  
I laughed so hard I had to stop reading  
more that once  
because I was blinded  
by my own tears of laughter  
 
I think it was fate  
that had me reaching that day  
for the nondescript black and white cover  
that was unlike the windswept sultry bullshit  
of almost every trashy romance novel ever  
 
I'm not generally a romance novel  
kind of girl  
because there is something way too rapey  
about a lot of the fantasies  
put into print  
 
This was not one of those  
this was the kind of story  
I'll remember on bad or boring days
when I need an easy laugh  
or smile  
that brings the right kind of tears  
to my eyes
