Kill yourself on your own time, not mine

Today I received a call from a young woman
She sounded desperate
She revealed to me that she was going to kill herself if she doesn't receive her refund by the end of this week
She claimed that she was suppose to receive about $7,000.00
I asked her a few questions, for disclosure purposes
I accessed her account and discovered that she's been trying to scam additional money for children that aren't her own
She's been doing this for several tax seasons
On file, notes and history have been recorded, explaining that she threatens suicide to the representative for a faster, immediate resolution
She's failed every time
Now there's criminal investigation activity on her account
I explained there was nothing I can do
A notice will be sent in the mail next week for further instruction
I then hear her shake a bottle of pills or something similar into the phone
She said to me, "You hear this? These are the pills I'm going to swallow right now, if you don't give me some good news about my refund
I hear her filling up a glass with water or some other liquid
She goes, "No help, Ok then, goodbye!!"
I said, "Ma'am, if you're going to commit suicide, make sure you have a large enough glass for immediate results!"
I hung up the phone
A week later, I was called into my managers office
There was the head of the department, the union and a social worker
They informed me that the woman that was threatening suicide, did in fact kill herself
She took a lethal dose of pills and guzzled a bottle a liquor
They were appalled on what I said to her
They wanted to know why I never pressed the emergency suicide button, for the cops to be sent out to her home
I was suppose to keep her calm and on the phone
I said, "I didn't want to be weighed down with additional paperwork"
"Also, I had a few minutes before I would sign off and go home!"
I always tell the truth
