On Gender
when somebody
i know gives birth
to a child i never
buy a pink card
or blue card that
says girl or a boy
stereotypes that
should be gone
& are out-dated
i choose a green
card or a rainbow
hurray it's a baby
sex doesn't say
anything about
gender identity
yet still there is
hatred, assaults
ridicule, violence
i pray for a world
where everyone is
accepted, welcome
& where transphobia
is a thing from the past
i know gives birth
to a child i never
buy a pink card
or blue card that
says girl or a boy
stereotypes that
should be gone
& are out-dated
i choose a green
card or a rainbow
hurray it's a baby
sex doesn't say
anything about
gender identity
yet still there is
hatred, assaults
ridicule, violence
i pray for a world
where everyone is
accepted, welcome
& where transphobia
is a thing from the past

A beautiful sentiment, I hope would come true but I doubt I’ll live to see it.

Well said. I always love to gift mint green or pale yellow for baby showers. My children's nurseries were never *blue* and *pink*. And men in pink shirts are hot. Period. People, sexuality, and colors are free to be whatever they are without stereotyping, I would agree.

It seems like your children's nurseries were ahead of their time. And yes, men in pink shirts are hot. Your people, sexuality & colors gave me a huge smile, kept that for another write.

Transphobia is not from the past and has no place in the future.
Anyone who has a brain that they use for themselves can think this through and accept that people who won't be labelled are a different species.

I can't agree more: it has no place in the future.

I'm not sure that being a boy or girl is a stereotype though. I'd say it was more factual. Fair enough, if you don't know the baby's sex, a neutral card is fine but if you do, surely a sex appropriate one would be fitting?

With stereotype I was referring to blue for boys and pink for girls ;-) As for sex appropriate, you never know if a baby born as a boy or girls feels comfortable with their sex later in life. It comes natural to me to take that into account, especially in these times.

I like to make baby quilts for new babies & always go unconventional with them. I'm currently making one that's red, white & black. I'll start another soon with birds. I try to reflect the parents personalities & not worry about gender. I get bitchy whenever I see a gender reveal video...sigh. Well said, little sis! 💖
