Image for the poem On Gender

On Gender

when somebody
i know gives birth
to a child i never

buy a pink card
or blue card that
says girl or a boy

stereotypes that
should be gone

& are out-dated

i choose a green
card or a rainbow
hurray it's a baby

sex doesn't say
anything about

gender identity

yet still there is
hatred, assaults
ridicule, violence

i pray for a world

where everyone is
accepted, welcome
& where transphobia

is a thing from the past
